Spinach Dal Recipe

- Ingredients
- Yellow split Dal(Tuvar dal) - 1 cup
- Spinach - 2 cups chopped
- Green Chilly - 1 slitted
- Ginger - 1 inch piece
- Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp.
- Cumin seeds - 1
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2tsp.
- Chilly Powder - 1/2 tsp.
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 2 cups(for pressure cooking)
- Oil/Ghee - 1 to 1.5 tbsp.
Direction
- Pressure cook dal with turmeric and 2 cups water for 3 to 4 whistles till it becomes soft and mushy.
- Once the dal is cooked smash it with laddle.
- Heat oil in a pan/kadai, crackle the cumins, then add chopped ginger and saute for half minute. Add green chilly, then add asafoetida.
- Now add chopped spinach. Saute it till spinach shrinks in size and becomes soft. Then add cooked dal and mix well.
- Add chilly powder, salt and mix it. Add water(3/4 or 1 cup) as for desired consistency.
- Cook it in sim for 5 to 7 minutes. Then switch off the heat and serve hot with rice.
